Union Says Pittsburgh Cafeteria Workers have 3-Year Deal

This story has been brought to our notice and we decided it might be of interest: Around two hundred University of Pittsburgh cafeteria workers that went on strike for three straight days in April 2010 have ratified a secure three-year contract with food service company Sodexo Inc we have been told.

Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ officials say the workers are set to receive hourly raises of at least $1.50 over the life of the contract, with certain workers getting an added bonus of up to $4 an hour raise. The union says the company has also agreed to pay 90% of single workers' health care premiums and 80% for family coverage which is great news for all copncerned.

The union's most recent three-year contract with Sodexo expired February 28 2010. Officials at Sodexo in Gaithersburg, Md. have said they are pleased the workers have ratified a contract which includes close on 12% raises and lower-cost health insurance options.
